LODGING:

Friday, October 6, 2023

Sorry for the delay, but we finally booked a block of rooms just 15 minutes from our kickoff location!

It's at a Best Western and is an affordable option.

You can book directly online through the following link with either a King Bed option or Double Queen option. Total price for either, all-in, is $189.88. This price also includes breakfast.

https://www.bestwestern.com/en_US/book/hotel-rooms.30027.html?groupId=B47JN5U6

There are a ton of eateries, supermarkets, auto parts stores, and even a Walmart nearby.....for all those last minute NERR items should you run out of time prior to Friday night! LOL.

While this isn't "officially" part of NERR's event, many people usually come in early for this night.

With kickoff being at Salisbury Beach, MA, there are a kot of motels in the direct area, but not sure about any bigger hotels.

We know lots of times people spend a little extra to get a real nice hotel this night also, but with Bar Harbor's hotel being more costly than expected, they might want to find something more reasonable than normal for this night

There are plenty of hotels within a half hour to forty-five minutes drive of the location though. If anyone has any questions about lodging for this night, you can reach out by email and we'll get back to you pretty quickly

Atlantic Eyrie Lodge

6 Norman Rd, Bar Harbor, ME 04609

www.atlanticeyrielodge.com

THE GOOD: If you've been here before, you know all about it. If you haven't stayed with us, you just need to know that everyone loves the place. Best view on the island, of Frenchman Bay. The higher the floor, the better the view. Also, they have added different warm breakfast additions (bacon, sausages, eggs, etc) to their morning selections since we've last stayed here. As always, they have the drunk bus to shuttle everyone to and from the downtown area, so no need to drive around/

THE BAD: While even back in May, we already knew that we were getting 10% off our rooms, we didn't know what their current rates were going to be. I have to say that I was a bit shocked at the prices, since I last stayed there. Since I've personally been going to this property for almost 15 years now, I still booked my room, even with the large price increase.

They are closed for the season, so to book your room, go to booknow – Atlantic Eyrie Lodge

Then, after you select your room, go to the left of the page and put NRR in the promo code box, to receive the 10% rate drop. If anyone has a problem doing that just put 10% off for Northeast Rod Run in the comments box on the right

While We're sure most people will still book this property, we completely understand if some people don't. We have NEVER had this (price shock) happen before, so if you want to try to find something else, we wouldn't be shocked. I know in the past, when we've sold this place out, people have booked cheap motels down lower on the hill. I don't know what their experieves were, but there are other options.

Rangeley Saddleback Inn

2303 Main Street. (US RT 4)
Rangeley, ME 04979

https://rangeleysaddlebackinn.com/

If you were with NERR in 2016, you may remember this property, with the hotel employees supplying us with firepits & the stuff to make smores. This was also one of the places that a local police officer came and hung out with all of us for a couple of hours, because "it was more fun than him just sitting in his car somewhere, watching movies by himself".

I recommend getting a second floor room, for a better view of Rangeley Lake across the street, as this hotel is located on a small hill.

To book your room just call the property directly at 207-864-3434. They don't allow blocking of rooms, so the rooms are first come, first served and if people remember back in 2016, this place sold-out and other lodging options were far and few between, because many places aren't open year round, so some people struggled to get alternate places booked.

They STRONGLY suggest to not go to a third party booking site, because if the place is overbooked, or that site loses your reservation, there is nothing they can do about it (the same as all other hotels' policies anyway, but some people don't
realize that). The rates aren't set yet, for 2023, but they said it should be around $165ish a night. Right now they only hold the room on your credit card, so there won't be any charges until we get there

There is usually someone in the office until early evening, but where they are short-staffed, if no one answers the phone, just leave them a message and your call will be returned.

As a side note, last time NERR stayed here, there was a restaurant connected to the hotel, but that has since closed, as have 7 or 8 other local restaurants in the last year. The effects of covid have hit area this area's businesses particularly hard. I was also told that they have charcoal grills for use and I think they also supply the charcoal, if people wanted to go that route.

Best Western Inn & Suites

5 Best Western Place
Rutland, Vermont 05701

This will be NERR's third time staying here in the past 16 years. This place has a bit of history for us, as it was the very first hotel NERR booked, back in our inagural year of 2008 (while our Sunday night lodging location was our last hotel booked during that same year) and we returned there again in 2015.

NERR has a pretty good relationship with property management, as we have also used some of their other properties, around New England, during past events.

Anyway....

All they had open for us were suites & the room price reflects that. We put that out there before we blocked here and the majority (actually 100% of people that responded) said they were ok with that. These rooms will be $249/night plus taxes. Without booking through our block, room costs were well over $300.00

This property has multiple buildings spread out around their grounds, set up much different than most places we normally stay. Each suite also has a full kitchen (on the idea of Jiminy Peak), so you could actually pick up food from a grocery store (center of town is less than 10 minutes away) and cook in your room if you liked.

There is also a warm breakfast buffet in the morning

When you book, call the hotel directly (802-773-3200), make sure you mention our room block to get the negociated rate. If you do it online, you will not get this rate.

Also, the block gets released 60 days prior to our stay, so if you don't book by then, you will be paying full price and probably will have to book 2 nights. Also, we only blocked 20 rooms, so if you miss out on those, you will also be on your own and at that time of year, in this area, it won't be cheap or easy to find a hotel in a location like this
